In 1985, with only six seconds remaining on Legion Field's stadium clock, Alabama trailed Auburn by a mere point. Quarterback Mike Shula had marched the Alabama offense down to mid-field and Van Tiffin kicked a 52-yard goal bestowing a 25-23 victory over their arch rival. The football sailed over the crossbar at the South end of the stadium where Daniel Moore witnessed it with his father, the late August Moore. During their car ride home, Daniel turned to his father and said, "Well, Dad, it looks like I've got the subject matter for my next painting!"
